Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,July 16,2016
A low pressure area will transition across the northern tier of the country on Saturday, while a cold front stalls out over the Mid-Atlantic and the Tennessee Valley.
A low pressure system will push slowly eastward across the northern Plains. This system will collide with moisture-rich air, which will lead to strong to severe thunderstorms over the northern Plains and the upper Mississippi Valley. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in southeast Montana, northeast Wyoming, southern North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, southwest Minnesota and western Iowa. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to southern North Dakota, eastern South Dakota, northeast Nebraska, southern Minnesota and Iowa. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will trail this system over the upper Intermountain West and the northern edge of the Pacific Northwest.
Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure will drift eastward over the Four Corners and the southern Plains. Most areas over the region will experience hot and dry conditions. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible in southern Arizona and New Mexico as monsoonal moisture surges across the two states.
Back east, a cold frontal system will initiate showers and thunderstorms over much of the East Coast and the Deep South. Prolonged heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in northeast Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
