Tropical Depression 8-E Forms In the East Pacific

Tropical Depression 8-E has formed in the open east Pacific and is expected to move west-northwest over the next several days.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
  • Tropical Depression 8-E has formed about 880 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.
  • The depression is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm over the next couple of days, and could approach hurricane strength late this weekend.
  • This new system is no threat to the U.S. mainland or Mexico.
