Severe storms created a commuter headache in Chicago when strong winds damaged a subway platform and forced train service to be suspended.
The Chicago Transit Authority suspended Blue Line trains in both directions between the Kedzie and Racine stations when pieces of a pedestrian ramp were ripped off and blown onto train tracks. Service was also suspended on the Red Line when a tree was blown onto the tracks near the Armitage station, according to The Chicago Tribune.
"A cluster of thunderstorms developed over the Chicago metro area Sunday evening, with intense cloud-to-ground lightning," weather.com digital meteorologist Brian Donegan said. "One of those bolts of lightning happened to strike a train stop directly."
The violent scene was captured in a video shared widely across social media.

CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski told The Chicago Sun-Times that no injuries had been reported in the incident that took place around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The newspaper reported that more 24,000 people in Cook County were left without power after the storms.
