Sunny spells to greet south of England this week while wet weather plagues rest of UK

In a stark contrast to last week, brollies and wellies will get limited use across the southern United Kingdom for much of this week as mostly dry weather dominates.
While showery spells occurred daily last week, rainfall will be scarce in Wales, the Midlands and southern England this week.
After an odd shower dampens places toward the North Sea on Tuesday, high pressure will build in to promote dry weather for the middle of the week.

There will be areas of low cloud and fog to start Wednesday. Otherwise, the day will feature sunny spells. Temperatures will be seasonable with highs generally ranging from 17-21 C (63-70 F).
The tail of a cold front will bring a few scattered showers to Wales and the Midlands on Thursday. Most showers should remain north of London and places along and south of M4.
Another area of high pressure will dry out all of the southern U.K. on Friday. A mild afternoon is expected to unfold with temperatures rising into the lower 20s C (69-74 F) across most of the Midlands and southern England.
Rain staying largely absent this week will be welcomed by residents weary of last week's showery spells. This includes the players and fans at Wimbledon, which was plagued by numerous delays during the first week of play.

Detailed forecast for Wimbledon

Those heading to Wimbledon or the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in East Molesey will get more use out of sun cream than brollies and wellies.
Rain will not threaten to cancel Wednesday's Coca-Cola Film Night showing of "Moulin Rouge" or "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" at Hyde Park in London.
Showery spells will prevent those with outdoor plans across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England from fairing as well as the southern U.K.
Depressions approaching from the Atlantic Ocean will cause scattered showers to occur on a nearly daily basis this week and likely even into this weekend.
Highs will range from 14-17 C (57-63 F) on Tuesday and Wednesday before rebounding slightly later in the week.
