Northeastern US storms to persist into Saturday evening

Showers and storms will pop up across the northeastern United States and threaten to disrupt outdoor weekend plans for some into early Saturday evening.
The wet weather will impact some of the same areas that got doused with storms on Friday.
A front crossing the region will collide with warm and humid air already in place on Saturday. Thunderstorms will then erupt.

Locally heavy storms could drench part of the day from upstate New York to eastern Pennsylvania.
"A narrow corridor stretching from the Hudson Valley of New York to eastern Pennsylvania will feature the best opportunity for some stronger storms," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio.
While highly localized, the strongest storms could produce gusty winds, small hail and torrential downpours, Rossio added. A few of the violent thunderstorms will also target New Jersey.
Those hoping to spend the day at the beach, lake or pool may have their outdoor plans cut short by thunder and lightning.
Storms could delay MLB games in Baltimore and New York City for a time.

While warm and stormy weather is in store for the Northeast, it will be a different story in New England, where cloudy, damp and dreary conditions will prevail.
"A stubborn area of high pressure will continue to bring a cool, easterly flow to much of New England, including Boston," Rossio explained.
Highs have remained 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit below normal for one or more days this past week in places such as Boston, Bangor and Portland, Maine. Saturday will be no different with highs failing to leave the 60s F.

Fans heading to the Boston Red Sox game against the Tampa Bay Rays may need a jacket to ease some of the chill.
The showers and thunderstorms across the Northeast to start the weekend will not be entirely bad news. Any rain will help to ease the abnormally dry conditions that encompass most of the region.
A severe drought has developed in parts of Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, according to the recent report from the United States Drought Monitor.
While drier air will move into much of the Northeast on Sunday, cloudy, wet and cool conditions are forecast to linger in New England.
