Hurricane Darby Is Set To Weaken In the Eastern Pacific Ocean

July 15,2016
Hurricane Darby is the only hurricane of the moment, continuing a recent spurt of eastern Pacific activity this month.
Hurricane Darby will not threaten any land areas, for at least the next five days, but may have a bit more interesting future next weekend, if it can survive.
Here's the latest on Darby:
  • Hurricane Darby is located over 970 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.
  • Darby a category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour.
  • Darby will begin weakening soon, with further westward extent this weekend, thanks to encountering cooler water and encountering dry air aloft next week.
  • Darby is no threat to any land areas for at least the next five days.
  • However, there is a small chance Darby, or what's left of it, could make it to Hawaii next weekend.
  • Given the negative factors it will have to work against (cooler water, drier air), there may not be much left of Darby if it makes it to the Big Island.
