Weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce said anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain has fallen along parts of the I-70 corridor in eastern Kansas and Missouri as of Sunday morning.
"The heavy rain and severe storm threat is along a frontal boundary that is draped from the central Plains into the mid-Atlantic," he said. "As a wave of low pressure moves along that front, the potential for flooding with also expand eastward."
Roads Flooded in Missouri
The National Weather Service reported that several rural roads in Missouri saw flooding in the early morning hours Sunday. As a result, at least two bridges flooded and several roads closed. However, no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the state at this time.Flash flooding prompted the closure of 45 Highway at Dry Lake Road due to water covering the highway. Rural roads have seen the heaviest reported flooding in the state, impacting several roads across eastern Jackson and western Lafayette Counties.
Superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Colonel J. Bret Johnson told KHQA that additional assets and manpower had been put into place in the event of an emergency.
