1 Dead in Vermont After Fatal Storms Blow Through Northeast

One person is dead in Vermont after a round of strong storms and damaging winds blew through much of New England and the Northeast Saturday leaving thousands without power.
Vermont State Police said a man was killed in Hubbardton when a tree fell on him amid severe storms. The Rutland County man's identity had not yet been released Saturday night, according to WCAX.

"A line of severe thunderstorms dropped out of Canada into eastern New York and northwestern Vermont. Winds in this line were in excess of 60 mph. Winds of this magnitude can cause trees to fall over," weather.com digital meteorologist Jonathan Belles said.
Storms weakened as they approached southern New England, but not before being responsible for over 50 reports of severe wind damage in New England.

Four children were rescued in Vermont's Button Bay State Park after swimming out to an island and becoming trapped in storms. Two boaters were also rescued in  Shelburne Bay after their canoe tipped over during a storm, according to WCAX.
Storms left more than 13,000 homes and businesses in Rhode Island without power Saturday morning. Power had been restored to all but 1,000 customers by 9 a.m. according to The Providence Journal.
