The
myth that tornadoes do not strike cities was proven wrong on May 11,1953, when an F5 tornado tore through Waco, Texas. A total of 114 people
were killed with nearly 600 others injured, making this tornado the
11th deadliest in U.S. history and the deadliest tornado in Texas since
1900. The Goliad, Texas, tornado of May 1902 killed as many people but
injured nearly 350 less than the Waco twister.
