As the unofficial start to summer approaches this week, the longest stretch of warmth so far this year will surge into the northeastern United States.
The warm surge will yield multiple days of highs in the 80s across most of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.
"Summerlike warmth will gradually move into the Northeast this week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Steve Travis said, "however, it will be delayed at the start of the week by a slow-moving storm that will keep cooler air entrenched along the Eastern Seaboard."
Temperatures will be stuck in the 60s F under the slow-moving storm, which is projected to spin some clouds and rain across part of New England on Tuesday.
While the storm holds down temperatures across parts of the Northeast, warmth will surge northward over it from the midwestern U.S. to the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Labrador.
Quebec City and Montreal will be warmer than Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia on Monday. Temperatures in Boston will then be about 20 degrees Fahrenheit lower than in Goose Bay that is located about 900 miles to the north in Labrador on Tuesday.
As the storm departs, the door will then be open for the summer warmth to spread into the coastal areas of the Northeast at midweek.

2016 US summer forecast: More 90-degree days than normal to scorch East
"Winds will shift out of the southwest on Wednesday, which will transport much warmer air into the region, sending high temperatures in the 80s for many areas through the end of the week," Travis said.
The second half of the week will bring the longest stretch of warmth to the Northeast and mid-Atlantic and could rival the days from earlier this spring as the warmest so far this year.
The warmth will expand into New York City as Fleet Week activities ramp up.
"Temperatures will even approach 90 F in parts of the mid-Atlantic at late week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Ed Vallee said.
A cold front will attempt to put the brakes on the warming trend in New England later in the week. Even if the front is successful, warmer air will quickly return by the holiday weekend.
Midweek will likely present the best opportunity for those looking to get outdoors and take advantage of the warmth. Aside from the potential for a shower in northern New England, dry weather will dominate and humidity levels will still be low.
Residents will be able to resume yard or field work that had to be put on hold by the weekend and early week storminess.
Humidity levels, as well as showers and thunderstorms will increase later in the week, resulting in even higher AccuWeather RealFeel® temperatures and a greater chance of disruptions to outdoor plans.
While actual temperatures may stop short of doing so, RealFeels could eclipse the 90-degree mark. That is especially true in the mid-Atlantic.
The impending warmth and humidity could put a strain on those engaging in strenuous activities, especially since this May has been cool and residents have not yet gotten accustomed to summer warmth.
The warm, humid and unsettled weather pattern will persist into the long holiday weekend, but some cooling may come to northern New England and the Great Lakes for Memorial Day.
"By the beginning of June, temperatures will likely return to normal levels, especially across the Great Lakes and New England," Vallee said.

Here comes the climate change alarmists with their warnings that we're all going to fry to death: summer-time's coming!
Joel Chris Ingrassia ·
We
were in the 60's and 70's for almost 2 weeks in NC. Looks like this is
the last of it..80's to near 90 degree temps. We go from 15 degrees
below normal to 10 above.
Paula Jones
We
could skip spring and summer. It's rarely nice in Chicago. Once it hits
80, it's severe. I don't know why everybody gets so excited when the
temps get warm--all it does is flood and storm. And it isn't one day of
rain...it's day after day after day. And with the first clap of thunder
my power goes out so that just adds to the fun. Come on Fall....
Simon Richard Bernstein ·
Oh
boy! Awesome Sweat! Humidity, humidity and more humidity. This has been
at best a dreck Spring in these parts (Mid Atlantic)! And of course the
warm weather will bring more humidity! I don't mind warm weather but
it's the stifeling humidity that makes one a slave to air conditioning.
And of course now we have to deal with daily late afternoon/early
evening thunderstorms which will jack up air traffic control. Memo to El
Nino and La Nina don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split
you. Go away. Can't we have a few years without El Nino and La Nina?
Sonja Yagel
I just wish we could dry out for a couple of weeks so hay can be harvested. It has been wet here since last fall.
Sharon Cole ·
Great weather for my pumpkin seedlings! Finally!
Richard Colledge
Oh my aching bones.I welcome a few warm days, even if it comes with higher humidity.
Wayne Langhuber ·
This
pattern could bring severe weather if a ring of fire pattern sets up.
But I don't think we see high heat. Then I think the first 10 days of
June will be near to slightly above normal temps then a more prologned
warm spell takes over after Mid Month. By July I think we could be
seeing our first real stretch of high heat in years. Last summer while
warmer than average did not deliver high heat it was more or less
prolonged moderate warmth. I am thinking a string of days in the
mid-upper 90's could occur a 2-3 times in July/August. Last year we were
1.1+ (June 1.4+, July 0.2+ and Aug 1.6+). ...See More
Wayne Langhuber ·
I
should add that last year from May-Sept we hit 80 degrees about 115
days. For me that was perfect. Lots of sustained warmth withhout too
much high heat. With the cooler than average May this year we won't get
115 eighty degree days in 2016. But 35-40 Ninety degree days mostly in
July/Aug looks likely.

Wayne Langhuber warmest summer since 2012 is likely up here.
Wayne Langhuber ·
Cory
Morrison I think so. Down here we may be about a 1-1.5+ warmer than
last year slightly abover normal departure but if I remember correctly
our summer was a little bit warmer compared to normal than your area
with June being the biggest difference.
Cory Morrison ·

Wayne Langhuber our July on the other hand, was not much different than yours.
Wayne Langhuber ·
Cory
Morrison I think you are right. Down here it came in normal almost to
the number. First half slightly below. Second half slightly above. Now
for my taste that was good news cause we missed out on the high heat but
still had a good number of warm days. In Philly the second half of July
saw temps 90-91-92 range so while hot it wasn't anywhere near as
oppressive as the heat waves we had in 2010 and 2011 or even 2012.
Sometimes where I live its not the temperature in July/Aug but the
humidity. The hottest stretch of the year actually was the first week of
Sept. I do not think this summer will be like last summer. June maybe
similar to last year but July/Aug hotter. Sept not as hot. Of course
May so far has been a dramatic turnaround but considering March was 6+
and April normal we will still end meteorological spring 1-1.5+.

We have had a nice cool spring!

Let's set fire to all of this rain.

I
am truly sick of this cold weather and rain. Enough is enough. By
the time some sun and warmth shows up it will be too late for my
saturated gardens and yard. My poor dogs are tired of it too. They dont
even want to go out in it any more. One now has developed arthritis.
As still for some of my local weather people who thinks its funny and
the great records being broke. -- who cares?????

I
feel your pain too. I have three greyhounds, and we have been
DESPERATELY trying to get them out to the park before the tourists
arrive for the summer ... this coming weekend. NOPE! Just rain, rain and
more rain. BUT, I am NOT a fan of this jumping into the high 80s with
humidity either. As a retired paramedic, I can truly say, it will hit
ALL OF US, DOGS, TOO, LIKE A TON OF BRICKS! Only asking for seasonal
weather here.

Michael
Carenza Jr. My greyhounds and I are TRULY sick of all this rain, BUT,
WE DO NOT NEED 90S AND HUMIDITY SO FAST! **Being a retired paramedic, I
can truly say, people will have a PROBLEM handling it so fast, as well
as our pets, especially greyhounds. SEASONAL WEATHER is all I ask for.

Deanne
L. McKimmey, My area has just been missing all that rain. Just a little
here. But I agree with you. Too much too soon is not good.

Yes, and soon please

Grant
McGuire Sorry kiddo, we will hvae a year without summer this year and
first snow is coming this September. Get ready for another round of
brutal winter this year.
Neven Prvinic ·
Brent Richardson and did you have a vision or did serpant with 7 heads reveal this to you?
Aaron Ginther ·
Snow
in September? Not here. But I guess in your own little personal bubble
in upstate New York anything is possible. If you believe hard enough you
might just grow wings and fly too.
Neven Prvinic ·
No
snow in September here either, never had it, never will, never even had
a frost in september, kind of hard to do with the lake Erie waters
still in the 70's during that month.
Grant McGuire ·
Brent Richardson Snow in Sept? Are you retarted or just out of your f***ing mind?

McGuire don't feed the troll. He's just mad that it won't be cold and
gloomy, because for some reason some people like being depressed and
cold. I say bring on the heat and humidity I love it! Can't wait for the
heat I hope it's hot until December.

Heather
Moscaritolo Brent has no evidence for his predictions. He is just
trying to anger warm wx fans to see how far it gets. He also predicted
that winter 2015-16 would be just as brutal as the previous 2 monsters.
How did that work out for him? I am looking forward to the heat and
humidity as well. Hopefully we will have the first real summer since
2012. I have things I want to do this summer that do not involve wearing
a sweater at the end of July like in 2014.
Grant McGuire ·
Today
was encouraging for this week's warm-up. It was sunnier & watmer
than expected, suggesting the low is weaken faster than anticipated
Michael Carenza Jr. ·
I
actually seen a breif snowshower in late September here in central CT
somewhere around the early 1980s after a strong cold front moved
through.

Still, the odds of his extreme-optimistic prediction becoming a reality are very slim.
