Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday,May 24,2016

Active weather will impact the Plains on Tuesday, while temperatures stay below normal over the West Coast.

A deep trough of low pressure will focus over the western third of the country. This area of low pressure will aid in producing showers and isolated thunderstorms across parts of California, the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. Most thunderstorms will be driven by daytime heating, so the bulk of the storms will fire up during the second half of the day. Thunderstorms will likely form in the Sierra Nevada and favorable terrain across the Great Basin. Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees below normal across a handful of states, which will support mixed precipitation in the Rockies.

Just to the east, a moist air mass will surge across the Plains. Moisture will interact with the aforementioned trough of low pressure, which will trigger strong to severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in northern Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, northeast Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and northwest Illinois. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Nebraska, northeast Kansas, northwest Missouri and Iowa.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will drift north northeast over southern New England. This system will usher showers and embedded thunderstorms across the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Showers and thunderstorms will also develop over the Florida Peninsula on Tuesday.
