Weekly wrap-up: Violent tornadoes ransack central US; 4 hikers perish on Mount Everest

Violent storms whirled through the central United States this week, spawning large tornadoes on multiple days.
Kansas was hit with multiple tornadoes, including one that tracked through Chapman, about 75 miles east of Topeka. Up to 25 homes were damaged. At some points during its track, the tornado was estimated to be at least half a mile wide.
The EF4 tornado overturned cars on its path as winds reached an estimated peak of 180 mph.
A tornado caused two critical injuries near Dodge City, Kansas, on Tuesday. The severe thunderstorm responsible for the twister was so powerful that, at its strongest point, it produced multiple tornadoes at the same time.

In Bryan, Texas, severe storms spawned a damaging tornado and intense flooding on Thursday. Local police said multiple homes were damaged, but no major injuries were reported.
Flooding submerged parts of southeastern Texas, closing major roadways in Brenham, about 75 miles east of Houston. Water rescues were reported in nearby Carmine, Texas.

Mount Sinabung in Indonesia erupted multiple times this week, killing seven farmers.
More than 5,000 people were evacuated from the town of Gamber, local officials said. The volcano had been dormant for 400 years before erupting in 2010 and 2014.

Four hikers died on Mount Everest over the past week. Two died from altitude sickness. One man fell to his death, and another man died from a suspected heart attack.
Subash Paul died on Sunday from altitude sickness after his team went off the original path.
"It is not clear what happened. We believe the weather suddenly deteriorated at some point, and the team lost direction," Wanchu Sherpa, Managing Director of Trekking Camp Nepal, told CNN.
