Central US to face days of severe weather this week

The threat for damaging thunderstorms and several tornadoes will continue across the central United States this week.
Multiple days of severe weather will target the Plains as systems emerge from the Rockies.
On Sunday, localized severe thunderstorms with several large tornadoes focused along a 1,300-mile swath from Texas to the Dakotas.
The greatest risk of severe weather will extend from west-central Texas to south-central Kansas into Monday night.

"Similar to late Sunday, the severe thunderstorms later on Monday will be localized in nature but still capable of producing damaging winds, very large hail and a few tornadoes," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said.
Flash flooding will remain a concern in areas that sit under the heaviest downpours.
While the greatest concentration of severe storms is expected to ignite over the central Plains, a few strong storms could fire as far north as the Upper Midwest.
"There is a threat for locally gusty thunderstorms to erupt around Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska Monday afternoon and evening," Pydynowski said.

Locations that experience morning clouds and wet weather may have limited severe activity during the afternoon hours.
Those in the Plains will want to closely monitor the weather situation over the next few days. Anyone taking part in outdoor activities should quickly move indoors at the first clap of thunder.
Travelers along interstates 20, 35, 40, 70 and 80 should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Residents may want to consider parking their car under some type of cover to prevent costly hail damage.
The stormy pattern is expected to continue through the end of the week.
"The central and southern Plains will face yet another round of severe weather on Tuesday before the threat expands to the mid-Mississippi Valley at midweek," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
Areas such as St. Louis could be under the threat for dangerous thunderstorms on Wednesday.
The central and southern Plains are being monitored for additional rounds of severe thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday.
