Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,May 9,2016

A low pressure system will transition across the Plains on Monday, while a frontal boundary moves over the Northwest.

An area of low pressure will drift east northeastward across the Plains and the Mississippi Valley. This system will interact with warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico, which will lead to strong to severe thunderstorms over the central third of the country. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in eastern Texas, eastern Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, southeast Nebraska, southern Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and northern Louisiana. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to northern Missouri and southern Iowa. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected across parts of the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic.

Just to the east, a low pressure system will make its way across southeast Canada. Light showers will develop in parts of Upstate New York and New England.

Meanwhile, a cold frontal boundary will extend southwestward over the northern high Plains, the upper Intermountain West and the Great Basin. This frontal system will generate rain and high elevation snow across the northern and central Rockies. Heavy snow will be possible in southwest Montana and northwest Wyoming. Most of the West Coast and the Southwest will experience dry conditions on Monday.
