Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,May 8,2016

A low pressure system will impact the central third of the country on Sunday, while a separate system shifts over the Northeast.

An area of low pressure will drift eastward across the Intermountain West and the central Plains. This system will collide with warm and humid air over the Plains, which will set the stage for strong to severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and north central Texas. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Moderate rain and high elevation snow will also affect the Wasatch, the Rockies and the northern high Plains.

Just to the west, a frontal system will dip southeastward across the Pacific Northwest. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible in parts of the Northwest, the Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West. This frontal boundary will also generate high elevation snow across the Sierra Nevada. Most of California will stay clear of precipitation on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will swing over southeast Canada and New England. This system will keep temperatures below normal from the northern Mid-Atlantic to New England. Light to moderate rain will also develop over New England. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms from the middle Mississippi Valley to the central Appalachians. High pressure will keep the Deep South and the Southeast under a warm and dry weather pattern on Sunday.
