Weather Underground Forecast for Friday,May 20,2016

An area of low pressure will impact the Southeast on Friday, while a frontal system moves across the Intermountain West.

A low pressure system will shift east northeastward across the lower Mississippi Valley and the Deep South. Warm and humid air will stream northward from the Gulf of Mexico. As this air mass collides with the aforementioned low pressure system, strong to severe thunderstorms will fire up across the Deep South, the Southeast, Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. Severe thunderstorms will be possible in southeast Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain will also bring threats of flash flooding to northern Alabama, northern Georgia, Tennessee, southeast Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. Dry air will settle in over the Northeast as high pressure builds across New England.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure and a cold frontal boundary will transition across the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will affect the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the Intermountain West. High elevation snow will be possible for the Cascades, the Sierra Nevada, the Wasatch and the Rockies. A dry weather pattern will prevail across the Desert Southwest on Friday.
