Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,May 12,2016
An area of low pressure will drift across the Great Lakes on Thursday, while a ridge of high pressure builds over the West Coast.
A low pressure system will move east northeastward over south central Canada and the upper Great Lakes. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will stretch southwestward over the western Great Lakes, the middle Mississippi Valley and the southern Plains. This frontal boundary will continue to be the focal point for rain and thunderstorms as it interacts with an air mass from the Gulf of Mexico. Multiple complexes of thunderstorms will develop in the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast, the Deep South and the southern Plains. Prolonged heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to southwest Pennsylvania, West Virginia, southern Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana. A mixture of rain and snow will trail this system over the upper Intermountain West and the northern Plains. Most of New England will experience dry conditions on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure will build over the coast of California. This high pressure system will keep conditions warm and dry across the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the Southwest. Temperatures will spike into the triple digits across parts of the Desert Southwest.
