Storms Continue to Slam Europe

With no break in sight from unsettled weather this week across Europe, several more storm systems will bring rain, snow and wind to portions of the continent through much of the coming week.
The general storm track will bring low pressure systems from the northern Atlantic, across the Iberian Peninsula, then into the Mediterranean Sea and eventually the Balkans. This will spread rain, mountain snow and gusty wind across the region.
During the beginning of the week, a disturbance will bring rain and snow showers across the Balkans and into western Turkey. A gusty wind will remain across the region, but it should not be as windy as compared to the weekend.

Many areas across the Balkans saw heavy rain over the weekend with 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) of rain falling from Albania and Greece to Bulgaria. Some of the heaviest rain fell along the coast of the Ionian Sea where Gjirokastra, Albania picked up 200 mm (8 inches) of rain.
Occasional snow will continue to fall across the Dinaric Alps where 8-15 cm (3-6 inches) of snow is expected.
As one disturbance brings unsettled conditions to southeastern Europe, the next in a series of storms will approach Spain bringing the next round of wet and wintry weather.

This second storm will bring another round of rain and mountain snow to Spain and Portugal on Monday as it dives south across the Bay of Biscay.
Even after the center of the low moves into the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday and Wednesday, an onshore flow will continue to bring rain and snow to northern Spain. Through the middle of the week in excess of 30 cm (12 inches) of snow will fall in the Picos de Europa Mountains.
While this low will bring rain and snow showers to Ireland, Scotland and coastal England, the heaviest of the precipitation will miss the interior of England, including London where it will be cold, but largely dry during the beginning of the week.
As this low moves across the Mediterranean Sea it will strengthen near Italy bringing widespread rain and heavy mountain snow through the middle of the week. Wind and seas will build across the Mediterranean Sea. This large low will bring widespread impacts with rain stretching from the Baltic Islands to Croatia and Greece.
