Soaking storms to elevate flash flood threat in northeastern US this weekend

Rounds of drenching showers and heavy thunderstorms will heighten the risk of flash flooding across the northeastern United States through the final weekend of July.
For some locations, this will mark the third or fourth consecutive day of rain.
Downpours prompted flash flooding and road closures in southwestern Pennsylvania on Saturday morning, according to local officials.
In addition to being drenching, a few storms in the mid-Atlantic could be locally strong and gusty. The storms could cause sporadic tree damage and power outages.

The greatest risk for locally damaging thunderstorms will be during the afternoon and evening hours.
Areas most likely to experience one or more rounds of soaking rain and gusty storms this weekend include portions of West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York.

"A stalled front will focus an increase in shower and storm coverage from the mid-Atlantic to southern New England into Sunday," AccuWeather Meteorologist Kevin Gilmore explained.
General rainfall amounts of a half to 2 inches are forecast across the region, which could generate flash flooding in some communities, Gilmore said. Locally higher rainfall amounts are possible.
Torrential downpours could reduce visibility and slow travel along portions of interstates 70, 76, 83 and 95 for a time.

In addition to causing disruptions to travel, rain could threaten to delay part of the New York Mets series versus the Colorado Rockies as well as the Pennsylvania 400 this weekend.
Only a few communities will be hit by the heaviest rainfall. Far more areas will endure periods of gentle rain, which will help alleviate the abnormally dry and drought conditions across the region.
Because of the random nature of the storms, some locations could still get missed by the big rain during the weekend, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
Far northern New England may stay dry for most, if not all, of the weekend.
Locally drenching showers and storms are forecast to continue across the Northeast into Monday.
Much drier weather is in store on Tuesday, when storm activity will become much spottier and mainly confined to New England and part of the Northeast coast.

Summertime precipitation is usually convective. Thunderstorms can dump flooding rains in one area and nothing in others just a short distance away. There is no way to predict if it will rain in your backyard, it's just the nature of summertime storms

i am making $89/hour working from home. I never thought that it was legitimate but my best friend is earning $10 thousand a month by working online, that was really surprising for me, she recommended me to try it. just try it out on the following website.

Considering the drought we're in, calling it "nuisance rain" hardly sounds right. The "nuisance" is that western NY is once again getting missed by the major rain. If I were the superstitious type I'd think there's some kind of evil power guiding it away from us.

Question of the day . How did we go from a projected 1-2 inches of rain to getting a bit less than a 1/4 " yesterday here in northern york county PA. all the local weather guru's were saying big rain to help with drought . HA HA what a joke !! I think I will ask my dog when it will rain !! Crops & gardens are in bad shape !! Can you ever get it right on the forecast !!

Seriously, how do people not understand these are FORECASTS not magic ball readings of the future? Weather often travels in bands, sometimes the weather across the street is different, or a mile away. It isn't even either. One spot gets 4" and a mile away gets 1/2". The forecasts we have today are pretty amazing considering what we had just 20 years ago. Even when it appears they get it completely wrong, it's because even a tiny change in the atmosphere can cause it to not rain at all. Or a foot of snow falls as an inch of cold rain.

John Judge Thank you, John. You saved me from having to explain it to people who don't get it. I've noticed that most people expect the weather to play out EXACTLY as forecasted...and, when it doesn't, they start moaning and complaining that the "forecast was wrong". What is the matter with people?
