Humidity and then the warmth will get swept out of the New York City area during the remainder of this week.
The passage of a cold front will open the door for drier air to pour into New York City for Wednesday, sweeping away high humidity and the threat of thunderstorms.
Northeast Improves Late Tuesday
Despite the low humidity, temperatures will still rise into the middle and upper 80s. A high around 84 F is more common this time of year.
As sunshine wins out over clouds, any planning to spend a significant amount of time outdoors (including at the beach) should be sure to apply sunscreen or grab a hat.

The evening hours will be ideal for the baseball game between the Yankees and Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
A reduction in the warmth will follow for Thursday with temperatures tumbling back to normal. Further cooling will occur on Friday as a storm system from the Ohio Valley tracks through the mid-Atlantic, causing New York City to experience its first sub 80-degree day since the first half of July.

Whether this system continues to track eastward or turns to the north will determine whether the cooling will be the result of just a blanket of clouds or also rain.
