Summer officially begins June 21 at 12:39 p.m. EDT. However, that only
pertains to astronomical summer that starts when the sun is directly
over the Tropic of Cancer. Meteorological and solar summers are already
under way. Meteorological seasons are based on daily normal
temperatures, while solar seasons are based on the amount of sunlight
entering the Northern Hemisphere.
