High Winds Wipe Train Cars Off Bridge near New Orleans (VIDEO)

April 27,2015

Thunderstorms carting powerful winds and heavy rain created a jaw-dropping scene in the New Orleans area Monday, as high winds pushed train cars right off an elevated train track.
It happened in Jefferson Parish around 10:30 a.m. A TV crew for WGNO was rolling video of the Huey P. Long Bridge in Elmwood when it happened.
The video shows the heavy rain coming down, and within seconds, the train cars roll off the bridge, and plunge to the ground.
No injuries were reported, but the surrounding area was littered with debris.
According to weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce, the NWS clocked 71 mph winds in Jefferson Parish at the time.
The train cars belonged to Union Pacific.
Hazmat crews told WDSU the containers did not have any hazardous materials aboard.
