A storm riding along a blast of arctic air will spread a swath of snow from the Great Lakes at midweek to the Northeast before the end of the week.
Yet another Alberta Clipper will drop in from Canada this week. As is often the case with these moisture-starved storms, the snow will tend to be light and more of a nuisance for most areas.
The storm will bring another round of slippery roads and perhaps minor airline delays from Detroit to New York City and Boston.
While the storm will strengthen as it reaches the Atlantic Ocean, it will not do so quickly enough to bring a major snowstorm New England.

Frigid Air to Roar Into Midwest, East in Waves Through Mid-February
The storm will affect Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo, New York Wednesday night. A bit of snow will affect Pittsburgh and part of the central Appalachians Wednesday night into Thursday.

During the day Thursday, a little snow is likely to impact Philadelphia; New York City; Albany, New York; and Hartford, Connecticut.
![](http://vortex.accuweather.com/adc2004/pub/includes/columns/newsstory/2015/650x366_02111619_hd12.jpg)
A couple of showers of mixed rain and snow can occur as far south as Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Dover, Delaware, with the greatest chance for slippery travel during Thursday night as arctic air begins to sweep in.
There is a chance of a few inches of snow across southeastern Massachusetts and eastern Long Island to coastal New Hampshire and Maine from Thursday night into Friday. The storm will begin to strengthen and turn northward as it moves offshore.
![](http://vortex.accuweather.com/adc2004/pub/includes/columns/newsstory/2015/650x366_02111032_hd25-1.jpg)
Workers and school districts around Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston will want want to monitor this close call, and next potential snowfall and snow day.
The storm could add more insult to injury for property owners, cities and townships in southeastern New England struggling with how to pay for snow removal, let alone where to put it.
At least for this particular storm the snow will tend to be more of a nuisance, rather than another major blow to commerce.
Since the storm is not likely to strengthen rapidly, southeastern New England will be spared from a major snowstorm. However, heavy snow is likely to hit areas from Nova Scotia to southern Newfoundland.
![](http://vortex.accuweather.com/adc2004/pub/includes/columns/newsstory/2015/650x366_02111402_hd24.jpg)
Still, the exact track and speed of strengthening of the storm will determine how far north and west the accumulating snow expands across New England to before the system heads rolls out toward Atlantic Canada. AccuWeather.com will continue to provide updates on this storm and others.
As the Alberta Clipper sweeps by, Arctic will follow from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast.
Areas made wet and slushy from the storm and moderate temperatures during the middle of the week can become icy and freeze solid. Temperatures may get so low that inexpensive ice-melting compounds, such as rock salt, will be ineffective.
The parade of Alberta Clipper storms will not stop during the school week.
The next Alberta Clipper storm is forecast to dive into the Northeast states during the Valentine's Day weekend with another round of snow.
The clipper storm storm this weekend is likely to be accompanied by dangerously cold air with gusty winds regardless of the amount of snow it brings.
Since the storm this weekend will strengthen quickly it has the potential to bring moderate to heavy snowfall to part of the Northeast.
- William Smith · Top Commenter · Inventory at Rem BarI'm with all of you who are sick of this winter.I used to like winter, especially as a kid but this winter's definitely testing my patience.I'm sick of every 2 or 3 days having my life disrupted by the endless snow and mind-numbing cold of this winter.I'm either shut in because of the snow and ice, or I have to wear 5 layers of clothing because it's brutally cold.Haven't even had the annual "January thaw", around here yet and it's already mid-February.I can count on one hand the # of days that it's been 35+ degrees here in the NYC area since 2015 began. Usually January 1-February 15 we'd have at least two or three days of 40+ yet it has yet to even hit 40 degrees here and only has been 35-40 degrees for only 2 or 3 days since January 1,2015.Oh where,oh where is spring?
- Aaron Ginther · Top Commenter · Lynchburg, VirginiaNew England, do you mind sharing your snow with us in the Mid-Atlantic? Specifically MD, DE, and VA. I've seen virtually nothing all winter and I'd like to see one good snow before spring comes. I don't think its fair the way mother nature is treating us this year.

People seem to think that a lot of snow in the winter is a forever thing. It does go away eventually...time to stop complaining about it.

- Marianne Astalos-Aslin · Toms River, New JerseyI see this was the coldest day of the year in 1934 in Philadelphia, Pa.......-11 degrees. Why is it global warming now? How about the children's blizzard in the mid/late 1800's when temperatures in North Dakota and the upper Midwest dropped almost 30 degrees in an hour because of a polar vortex which swept the area along with a blizzard causing many children to freeze to death while walking home from school....again, why global warming now and not then? Just would like a real answer as I call it like it is....air pollution; lead by China and India.

- John Meenaghan · Top CommenterI've lived in the Boston area for many years, but this past 17 days have been the worst I've seen with unrelenting snow, wind and bitterly cold temperatures. I now have over 5 feet of snow on my lawn and more coming with no where to put it. The snow blower throws it several feet but it's now building up on a crest and another foot and it won't make it. We need a break and it has to be soon. Officially we received 71 inches in 17 days. Tomorrow all the subway system is shut down so they can clear the tracks and signals. They too have no place to put the snow.
- Bill Mac · Top CommenterLOL, you crack me up with the loving winter bit, but that's cool. Hey Mike, think a little though of the old, sick, homeless and handicapped, this stuff isn't so fun, its downright deadly. If you like this stuff so much and feel like you can travel so easily in it, lend a hand where you can and keep an eye out for those I mention above. Enjoy, although I don't think I have to remind you of that. GO PATS!
- Laurel Casey · Top Commenter · Social Satirist at Monsanto CompanyIn the future, due to climate change, snowfalls will increase because the atmosphere can hold 4% more moisture for every 1-degree increase in temperature, Trenberth said. As long as temperatures stay just below freezing, the result is more snow — rather than rain, he said.

- Marty Bell · Madison central hs old bridge njWhat I find funny, interesting, ironic, and even somewhat annoying is that when winters occur that are dry and lacking in snow, people complain. Not to call anyone out specifically, as we are ALL guilty of it...but in the last few years (even earlier this season), folks in New England and the Boston area have been complaining about the lack of snow or storms that bring more rain than snow. Fair complaint. But now there is snow...a lot of it granted...but cheer up...you got what you wanted and what had been missing from your winters. Maybe next year or upcoming years it will go back to being a dry slot and people from the same locations will be complaining they are not getting the snow and that other areas/states/locations are actually "hogging it." Point is...it is what it is. If you have a snowy, cold, and harsh winter this year, maybe next year won't be the same. If you have milder or less snowy winters now, that may change next year. It is just getting a little old hearing people complain about all the snow they have been wishing for all this time. As the saying goes: Be careful for what you wish.
- Amy Perrin · Top CommenterI never wished for snow. In fact I was praying to not get snow, or barely any. Mother Nature decided to do the exact opposite. By the way, I live in New Hampshire. I would move, but I have MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and just a simple act like vacuuming causes my body distress. Moving would send it into a state of frenzy that might result in a major relapse. Oh, and then of course there is the money involved in moving, and I am on Social Security Disability. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. At least venting gets some of the frustration out.
- Carrol Ryan · Wilmington High SchoolThis winter has NOT been fun, or funny as some southern people seem to make of it. We have people dying here in the northeast...73 inches of snow in 17 days is dangerous. Our homes are unsafe, toxic fumes from blocked vents, roof's colapsing, exposure to freezing conditions are putting lives at risk. And as for people here that get to go :skiing"..well...most of us are not wealthy and can have so much fun in all this snow. Don't get me wrong , I love New England and wouldn't live anywhere else, but, this winter is gawd-awful and unsafe and I, for one, will be happy to see Spring this year!

- Carmen Bernardo · Paper Runner (Courier) at Sardo & Sons Warehousing, Inc.About 5 years ago, I was looking at no less than THREE big snows in my area at this time. I remember well, because I was doing a commute into Newark at the time and still had over 4 feet of it piled up around the house. Late December, and two back-to-back around the end of January. We're sitting around this year getting the wet end of the clippers, but see-sawing between seasonal (and occasionally mild) and more frigid temps.

- Lanza Landscaping · New Rochelle, New YorkI always thought that clippers are void of moisture and move quick .
Why this year are they blowing up at the coast and causing so much snow ?- Elizabeth Wear · Pentucket Regional Senior HighScientists speculated over the summer that due to extraordinarily warm conditions, the polar vortex hasn't been behaving as it should and the atmosphere is holding more moisture; the combination of these two factors is lending itself to blizzard conditions in the New England unlike anything many people have seen in their lifetimes.
