Typical August Heat to Stay Absent From Harrisburg

Air conditioners and umbrellas will get a break Thursday and Friday around Harrisburg.
Dry air working into the Harrisburg area will not only keep soaking rain absent through Friday but also typical August heat.
At most, those traveling westward toward State College or Bedford will encounter a stray and brief shower on Thursday.
High temperatures will be held to the upper 70s each day, which is more common during the first half of September. A high of 84 F is typical in mid-August.

Low humidity will complement the weather, creating ideal conditions for many outdoor activities.
The dry air is being ushered in following the passage of the storm system that caused Islip on Long Island to shatter New York state's 24-hour rainfall record.
Tannersville, New York, previously held the record with the 11.60 inches that poured down during once-Hurricane Irene on Aug. 27-28, 2011.

Some residents and visitors may opt for a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket at night as temperatures dip into the 50s. In a few of the farthest outlying coolest areas, temperatures will drop into the 40s.
Temperatures will rebound into the lower 80s to start the weekend, but humidity will remain comfortably low and dry weather will persist.
