Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, August 27,2014

A broad area of low pressure will affect the western half of the country on Wednesday, while a cold frontal boundary will extend from the middle Mississippi Valley to the Northeast.

A strong low pressure system will move slowly eastward over the Intermountain West on Wednesday. As an abundance of monsoonal moisture streams northward over the Four Corners, it will interact with this low pressure system to initiate strong thunderstorms across the nation’s midsection. Thunderstorms will be possible across the Great Basin, the central and southern Rockies, and the central and southern Plains. These thunderstorms will bring heavy rain to the region, which could lead to flash flooding over northeast Colorado, southeast Wyoming, northern Kansas, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota and Iowa. Conditions will remain mostly clear across the West Coast due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.

Meanwhile, a cold front will extend across the middle Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast on Wednesday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible along this frontal boundary, although storms will stay relatively weak throughout the day. Warm, muggy air will continue to push northward from the Gulf of Mexico, as temperatures are forecast to range between the 90 and 100s over the middle Mississippi Valley. A disturbance along the northern Gulf of Mexico will generate rain and thunderstorms across the Gulf Coast, while the Mid-Atlantic and majority of the Southeast will avoid wet weather.
