Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,August 25,2014

An area of low pressure will drift across the northern tier of the country on Monday, while monsoonal thunderstorms will develop over the Four Corners.

A strong low pressure system will move east northeastward over the upper Midwest and south central Canada on Monday. This system will bring rainy weather to the upper Mississippi Valley and the western Great Lakes. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend southwestward over the northern and central Plains. As warm, muggy air interacts with this cold front, strong thunderstorms will develop over the nationĂ‚’s midsection. Heavy rain associated with these thunderstorms will bring a chance of flash flooding to northeast Colorado, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota and western Iowa. Meanwhile, a surge of monsoonal moisture will spread across the Four Corners and the southern Rockies. This moisture will aid in producing afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the southern Rockies and parts of the Great Basin. The West Coast will stay mostly clear of precipitation on Monday due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.

A weakening cold front will stretch across the lower Mississippi Valley, the Deep South and the Southeast. An onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will collide with this frontal boundary, triggering thunderstorms across parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast. High pressure will keep the Northeast mostly clear on Monday.
