Heat Advisory in effect for NYC area for the next 24 hours (possibly to extend to the rest of the week,as well)

. Heat advisory remains in effect from noon to 8 PM EDT Monday...

* locations... western Long Island... interior portions of
northeast New Jersey... the lower Hudson Valley... and interior
portions of southern Connecticut.

* Hazards... heat.

* Heat index values... up to 100 due to temperatures in the
middle 90s and dew point temperatures near 70.

* Timing... highest heat index values will occur during the
afternoon and early evening on Monday.

* Impacts... initial impacts if no protective action is taken...
fatigue. Sunstroke... muscle cramps... and/or heat exhaustion is
possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and
humidity is expected to make it feel like it is at least
95 degrees for two consecutive days or if heat index values reach
100 to 104 degrees. Take extra precautions if you work or spend
time outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to
early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting
clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
