Wind shear is the changing of wind direction with height. If the wind
shear is strong enough, it can disrupt the circulation of a tropical
cyclone and cause it to weaken. The best example of this is when
stronger, upper-level westerly winds encounter a westerly moving
tropical storm or hurricane.
