After another couple of hot days to begin the week, much of the United Kingdom will experience more comfortable, yet still unusually warm, weather over the next few days.
London's high temperature soared to 33.5 degrees C (92 degrees F) on Monday and 29.6 degrees C (85 degrees F) on Tuesday. The average high temperature this time of year is 21.7 degrees C (71 degrees F). Monday's high in London was the highest temperature recorded in the United Kingdom so far this year. Moreover, it was the city's hottest day since July 2006.

The forecast high in London on Thursday is 24 degrees C (75 degrees F), and the high on Friday is expected to be 27 degrees C (81 degrees F). Over the weekend, highs are forecast to be 26-28 degrees C (about 79-82 degrees F).
Normal highs in London during the last week in July average about 22 degrees C, or near 71 degrees F.
The reason for a change in the weather pattern is that the more comfortable air is streaming in from the Atlantic Ocean, whereas the previous hot air was originating from over Europe.
A slow-moving area of low pressure west of the United Kingdom will keep the winds southwest, thus off the Atlantic, and will not allow any more extreme heat events for this forecast period.
