An Asiana Boeing 777 traveling from Seoul, South Korea to San Francisco made a crash landing at 11:27 a.m., PDT, Saturday at San Francisco International Airport. There were 307 passengers, including crew reported to be on board of the aircraft, according to San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes, from a press briefing Saturday afternoon.
It was not immediately known what caused the crash or if there were injuries to passengers. Approximately 181 people were transported to area hospitals and 123 people were not injured, according to the latest press conference. One person is still unaccounted for as of 8:46 p.m. EDT. Two fatalities were also reported.
Weather conditions at the time of the crash were mostly sunny with light southwest winds around 8 mph with a temperature of 65 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Brian Edwards.
Following the crash the airport closed indefinitely, according to the FAA. Flights that were destined for the San Francisco International Airport were diverted to other airports, including Los Angeles International, according to the Associated Press. Two of the four runways at the San Francisco International Airport are open according to the press briefing.
