A potent line of thunderstorms will sweep across the Northeast into Saturday night with damaging winds, hail and downpours.
Cities at risk for severe weather include Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City.
“The strongest thunderstorms could cause property and tree damage and sporadic power outages,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Renee Duff said, adding that an isolated tornado or two is possible.
The risk for severe weather will wane significantly after dark as the storms exit the coast and colder air filters into the region.

Severe thunderstorms with a history of producing 60 mph wind gusts were moving into Center City Philadelphia at about 5 p.m. EST.
A flash flood warning is in effect in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre areas of Pennsylvania until 6:15 p.m. EST. Up to one and one half inches of rain has already fallen. Other locations in Northeastern Pennsylvania that are expected to experience flooding are Dunmore, Kingston, Nanticoke, Plains, Carbondale, Old Forge, Pittston and Archbald.
Quarter-size hail was reported by a NWS spotter at 3:08 EST in Dahlgren, Virginia, just north of Richmond.
Several funnel clouds have been spotted near Columbia, Pennsylvania, just west of Lancaster. Farther north and east near Scranton, a roof was blown off of a house in Pittston.
As of 2:45 p.m. EST, a second severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for northeastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey and eastern New York until 9 p.m. Hail the size of golf balls has been reported from a severe thunderstorm near Moosic, Pennsylvania.
Thunderstorms across central and northern Virginia have unleashed three-quarter to one-inch size hail this afternoon.
A thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over East York, Pennsylvania, at 2:20 p.m. EST. The storm is moving northeast at 30 mph.
A severe thunderstorm with a history of producing damaging winds and quarter-sized hail is racing northeastward near Culpeper, Virginia, as of 2 p.m. EST.
