A stormy weather pattern unfolding across Europe this week will lead to showers and gusty winds sweeping into Germany on a daily basis.
A series of three storm systems will sweep across the country through the course of the week; with each storm, a round of showers and gusty wind can be expected.
Rain will be the heaviest across northern Germany, though southern areas will likely see showers on multiple occasions. Gusty winds accompanying each round of showers could make holding onto an umbrella challenging in Hamburg, Cologne and Berlin.
Germany 2/19
The first in the series of storms will impact the country on Monday.
“The northern coast of the country could have wind gusts of 64 km/h (40 mph) on Monday,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards said.
Much of southern Germany will have a final dry day on Monday, though showers will make an appearance during the evening and overnight.
The second storm of the week will bring another round of rain and wind on Wednesday. This will be quickly followed by the third storm on Thursday and Thursday night.
These storms occurring during the middle of the week will be stronger than the first. Much of northern Germany could face wind gusts to 64 km/h (40 mph) on Wednesday and Thursday as the more potent storms arrive. There may even be gusts to 96 km/h (60 mph) near and along the northern coast.
Winds of this magnitude could lead to sporadic power outages and tree damage with rough seas endangering small craft along the northern coast.
Widespread heavy rain and flooding are not anticipated. However, the heaviest showers could lead to a period of reduced visibility and wet roads for motorists. Airline passengers could face minor delays.

While the wind and rain are not expected to be as significant in southern parts of the country during the midweek, locations such as Munich, Stuttgart and Nuremberg will still see rounds of showers and a gusty wind.
The one advantage of the stormier weather is that cold will be absent. A mild flow from the Atlantic Ocean will keep temperatures above normal through the first half of next week. However, the gusty winds would work to hold AccuWeather RealFeel® temperatures below actual highs.
