After Warm Jolt, Yet Another Northeast Cooldown Ahead

While many of us across the nation have been baking in above-average heat, residents of the Northeast have been immune to those unbearable temperatures. Cold fronts have moved through frequently, and this week will be no exception.
After a brief period of warm and humid conditions, another cooldown will be on the way.

Jet Stream Dip Will Cool Down The Northeast Again This Week
A massive ridge of high pressure aloft (a bulge in the jet stream) has been keeping many sections of the nation hot. The ridge will nose its way into the Northeast into Monday, allowing temperatures to be quite warm there. Humidity levels will also be on the rise.

On Tuesday, the ridge will retreat westward and a trough of low pressure aloft (dip in the jet stream) will descend upon the Great Lakes. By Wednesday, the trough will prevail across the Northeast with a cooler and drier air mass taking hold.
A cold front, the leading edge of the cooler air at the surface, will push through the Northeast on Tuesday. The front will trigger thunderstorms, some possibly severe, across the region. Many locations will feel a drop in heat and humidity by Wednesday.

Although most of the Northeast will feel the drop in humidity levels, the most notable drop in temperatures will be felt from the Great Lakes to New England.
The cool spell will continue through the end of next week before temperatures moderate.
