2 dozen killed as floods, landslides strike Indonesia

Flooding rain and landslides struck part of Indonesia on Saturday, killing at least 24 people, according to local officials.
Amongst the dead includes a pregnant woman and two children, according to the Associated Press.
Rescue efforts are ongoing to search for the dozens of people that remain missing.

The AP reports that the province of Java was hit the hardest by torrential rainfall. Floods and landslides have destroyed homes in 16 districts and towns across the province.
Additional rainfall could slow clean-up efforts across the region through early week. Some of the rain will be heavy at times, especially in the strongest of thunderstorms.

"Daily showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon hours, will continue to affect Java and most of Indonesia over the next few days," AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards stated. "It will also be seasonably warm and humid."
Torrential rainfall that induces landslides is not uncommon in Indonesia this time of year, Richards explained.
