Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,January 4,2015
A low pressure system will move across the Ohio Valley and the Northeast on Sunday, while a Pacific system will affect the Northwest.
A vigorous low pressure system will slide east northeastward over the Ohio Valley, the eastern Great Lakes and the Northeast. This system will usher snow over the upper Midwest, while moderate to heavy rain will develop over the Ohio Valley and the interior Mid-Atlantic. In addition, a mixture of snow and freezing rain will impact the Northeast. Winter storm warnings are already in place across upper Midwest, Upstate New York and New England. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will extend south southwestward over the southern Appalachians, the Deep South and the central Gulf Coast. As this cold front shifts eastward, it will collide with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Rain and thunderstorms will develop ahead of this frontal boundary over the southern Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast.
Meanwhile, a strong Pacific system will move onshore over the Northwest. This system will push heavy rain across the lower elevations of the Pacific Northwest and the upper Intermountain West. High elevation snow showers will develop across the Cascades and the northern Rockies. Winter storm watches are in place across portions of Washington, Idaho, western Montana and northwest Wyoming in anticipation of snow showers. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions dry across the Southwest, the Great Basin and the southern Rockies on Sunday.
