Monday could bring first snowfall of season to Warsaw

Warsaw could get its first snowfall of the season on Monday as a taste of winter develops across eastern Poland.
A narrow band of accumulating snow will develop across northeastern Poland on Monday.
With surface temperatures only marginal for snow, the exact track of the storm and where its heaviest precipitation falls will determine where the heavy, wet snow develops.
One community may be blanketed by a meter or two (several feet) of snow, but 100 km (63 miles) to the east or west, a mixture of rain and/or wet snow will fall.

"The snow will be heavy and wet and has the potential to weigh down trees, snap branches and down power lines," AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.
"Accumulations will mostly start on grassy surfaces but then could spread to paved surfaces as Monday goes on," he said.
Roads could become slick for a time during the most intense snowfall.
Where the precipitation is too light on the outer fringes of the storm, even wet snowflakes will struggle to reach the ground.
However, within the narrow snow zone, residents will face disruptions to travel and daily routines for a time.

Areas in northeastern Poland, such as Lomza, Elk and Suwalki, are most at risk for the highest snow amounts and greatest disruptions on Monday.
Farther south, snow could also mix with rain around Warsaw for a time on Monday. If the snow falls heavy enough, grassy surfaces would turn white.
Any snow in early November in Warsaw is unusually early, and Monday's snow would be the city's first so far this season.
The nearby city of Siedlce has not recorded snow this early in the winter season since 2006, according to Roys.
The snow will spread northward later on Monday and Monday night to the Baltic states.
