May 11,2015

After dropping needed snow on the Sierra Nevada and the Rockies, Winter Storm Venus dumped a record-breaking snowfall in Rapid City, South Dakota, Sunday.
This is the latest in the season Rapid City has seen this much snow, over a foot according to the National Weather Service. Venus is also the area's second largest May snowstorm and the third largest total May snowfall.
Elsewhere, including Colorado and Nebraska, Venus damaged trees and blocked off roadways.

Here are state-by-state impacts from Venus:

As noted above, Venus is the heaviest snowfall Rapid City has seen this late in the season.

Colorado

Rising river levels fed by heavy rains forced the evacuation of a campground, and weather forecasters issued a winter storm warning for the northern and central Colorado mountains, even though it's springtime in the Rockies.
Venus has brought more than 4 inches of snowfall to Denver International Airport, making it the snowiest May in 12 years, according to Jon Erdman, weather.com meteorologist.
