Boston: Warmest Day So Far in 2015 to Unfold Monday

May 3,2015; 9:40PM,EDT

A surge of warmth into the Northeast will create Boston's warmest day so far this year on Monday.
The thermometer at Boston's official weather observation site has yet to record a temperature of 70 F or higher this year. That will change on Monday.
After a warmer end to the weekend, significant warming on Monday will send temperatures well into the 70s. The day will feel more like the calendar is reading June with a forecast high that is 15 to 20 degrees above normal for early May.

Temperatures in Boston have not flirted with the 80-degree mark, as they will on Monday, since the middle of October.
Residents will be able to wear shorts and short sleeves for a walk, bike ride or any other outdoor activity on Monday. While actual temperatures will be more representative of summer, humidity will remain comfortably low.

With abundant sunshine complimenting the warmth, anyone spending a considerable amount of time outdoors should remember to wear sunscreen.
The warming will occur ahead of a cold front that will return a shower or thunderstorm to the area on Tuesday, especially during the first half of the day.
The front will also open the door for cooling to occur Tuesday into Wednesday. Temperatures will still remain above normal for this time of year, especially away from the Cape and Islands.
Later this week, a ridge of high pressure will build across the Northeast and once again cause temperatures to soar. Winds flowing in from the ocean could slow the warming or prevent Boston from getting as warm as interior New England.

For those planning to take advantage of the warmth to plant flower beds, gardens and crops, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Mark Paquette states, "I anticipate that the I-95 corridor, Ohio Valley and places near the shores of the Great Lakes are out of the woods for a frost."
"The period from May 13-15 may produce a clear, calm and cool night that could bring the last frost threat of the season for the Upper Midwest, northern Pennsylvania, upstate and western New York and the interior of New England," he added.
