Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,February 19,2015

An area of low pressure will move over the Northeast on Thursday, while a cold front will slide across the Northwest.

A low pressure system is expected to move northeastward over the northern Mid-Atlantic and the coast of New England. This system will bring light snow showers to the coast of the northern Mid-Atlantic during Thursday morning. As this system shifts over the coast of New England, it will draw moisture from the Atlantic, fueling moderate to heavy snow over northern New England. Cold air behind this system will interact with the relatively warm waters of the Great Lakes. This interaction will generate lake effect snow over portions of western Michigan, northern Indiana, northwest Pennsylvania and western New York.

Additionally, this cold air mass will bring temperatures 20 to 40 degrees below February standards over the Midwest, the Tennessee Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. Wind chill advisories are in place across a handful of states over the eastern half of the country. Meanwhile, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will overrun this cold air. Freezing rain and snow will be possible over the lower Mississippi Valley on Thursday. Light snow is also expected to develop over the middle Mississippi Valley and the northern Plains during the second half of the day.

Out west, a cold front will usher light showers over the Pacific Northwest, as well as high elevation snow over the northern Rockies. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions calm across the Great Basin and the Southwest.
