A low pressure system will move across the Mid-Atlantic and the western Atlantic on Tuesday, while a separate system will slide across the Great Lakes.

An area of low pressure will move east northeastward over the southern MId-Atlantic and the western Atlantic. This system will usher a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow over the Tennessee Valley, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. In addition, a cold frontal boundary extending across the southern tier of the country will generate rain and thunderstorms over the central and eastern Gulf Coast. A mixture of rain and snow will also be possible over the southern Plains and the southern Rockies.

A separate area of low pressure will shift across the Great Lakes. This system will bring light to moderate snow showers to the upper Midwest. Locally heavy snow will be possible downwind of Lake Michigan, especially over the southwestern corner of Michigan. A cold front associated with this system will extend across the northern Plains and the upper Intermountain West. Light snow showers will develop along this frontal boundary across the northern Rockies, the northern high Plains and the central Plains on Tuesday.

A ridge of high pressure will linger over the western third of the country. Dry conditions will persist to the west of the Continental Divide. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest.
