strong low pressure system will impact the Northeast on Sunday, while a
separate system is expected to develop over the southern Plains.
A powerful low pressure system will slide across the Northeast on Sunday. This system is forecast to intensify along the coast of New England, which will bring blizzard conditions to the region. Blizzard warnings are already in place for the coasts of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. This system will usher heavy snow showers over the aforementioned states. Wind speeds will likely exceed 50 mph, as hurricane force wind warnings are in place for the coast of Massachusetts. An arctic high pressure system will settle in behind the low pressure system. Temperatures are expected to drop 20 to 30 degrees below normal over the Midwest, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast. Wind chill warnings are in place across a handful of states.
Meanwhile, a separate area of low pressure will deepen over the southern Plains and the lower MIssissippi Valley on Sunday. This system will generate rain, freezing rain and snow across the southern and central Plains, the lower and middle Mississippi Valley as well as parts of the Deep South. Freezing rain will be possible over eastern Oklahoma, northeast Texas, southern Arkansas, northern Louisiana and northern Mississippi.
Additionally, a trough of low pressure will initiate moderate to heavy snow showers over the Rockies. A ridge of high pressure will keep conditions clear to the west of the Continental Divide.
