Winter Weather Threats

Welcome our Winter Weather Watch page. Here, we will detail the latest winter weather threats, updated by winter weather expert Tom Niziol (Twitter | Facebook), senior meteorologist Tom Moore, and our meteorologists in the Global Forecast Center.
Background

Rain/Snow Forecast

Rain/Snow Forecast
Nika's snow and ice slickens the Midwest and Northeast Wednesday. Then, yet anther winter storm may take shape this weekend for the central and eastern U.S.
STORM:CON for Winter Storm Nika (What is STORM:CON?)
New York: 5 (freezing rain)
Boston: 9 (5 to 8 inches of snow/sleet, more north and west of downtown)
Winter Storm Nika
Winter Storm Nika is producing snow across much of the Northeast. Freezing rain has changes to rain at Philly but still icy north of there and into NJ. Snow has changed to freezing rain at NYC and will probably change to rain by late morning. Heavy snow across southeast NY to southern new England. Snow to sleet in southeast new England and Cape Cod perhaps up to Boston. Heavy snow north of Boston. Lighter snow into Maine and back to northern New York. Moderate snow along I-90 from Syracuse to the Mass Pike. Light freezing rain/freezing drizzle in western MD to near Baltimore and down the I-81 corridor into VA to Roanoke and east to around Dulles Airport west of D.C. to around Charlottesville. These areas will see precipitation end and become drizzle as temps move up slightly.
Potential Next Big Winter Storm
Models backing off the big eastern coastal storm and going more for a two-small piece scenario for Mid-Atlantic/Northeast (light snow with either or both). Some snow this weekend for the Pacific NW (even in lower elevations). Seattle could see a bit of snow (but mainly south). Some snow for Portland, Ore., especially Sunday.
