Monitoring Boston Snow Potential as Cold Returns

The colder air headed back to Boston this week could pave the way for disruptive snow at midweek.
The 50-degree warmth will end with this weekend. Waves of arctic air and the polar vortex sinking southward will then make for a cold end to February.
The first blast of cold air will come on Monday after a band of wet snow, which will start as rain, moves through Sunday night. Little to no snow accumulation is expected.
Residents and motorists, however, should watch for wet and slushy areas to turn icy around daybreak Monday as temperatures fall.

Temperatures later Monday will be held to the middle 30s, which is about 15 degrees below Sunday's mild high and similar to the the overnight lows recorded over the weekend.

Tuesday through Friday, temperatures will then struggle or fail to reach the freezing mark. A high close to 40 F is more common in Boston this time of year.
Dry weather will dominate for Monday and Tuesday, then some snow will follow for Wednesday. One scenario for the snow would be for it to leave a coating to a couple inches. The other scenario is for steadier snow to develop and cause more disruptions to travel and daily routines.

Residents and visitors should continue to check back with AccuWeather.com for the latest on the midweek snowstorm potential.
There could be another opportunity or two for snow around Boston during the first several days of March as the cold air holds firm and storms track across the United States.
