NYC: Rainy, Foggy Episodes to Tag Along With Mild Weather

A break from the cold and snowy weather is in store for much of the balance of this week around New York City, but some travel problems are possible.
Temperatures are forecast to reach the 40s Wednesday and Thursday and the 50s Friday and Saturday.
Due to the extensive snow cover and the cold ground, the pattern will pose some problems.
Temperatures will dip to or below freezing in some communities through midweek. Motorists and pedestrians should be on the lookout for areas of black ice, especially since ice-melting chemicals are becoming scarce.

Along with the mild weather and cold ground will come areas of fog. The fog could be dense enough at times in parts of the Midwest, South and East to cause flight delays.
Two storm systems moving through will boost the chance of fog and raise the likelihood of rain.
One such system will affect the area Wednesday. Wet snow or a wintry mix will fall on part of the region, mainly north and west of the city.
Another, stronger system is forecast on Friday, when a thunderstorm is also possible.
At this time, it appears severe weather will stay south of the region, thanks in part to the snow cover, cold ground and cold ocean.
Enough melting will occur this week to bring the risk of street and highway flooding.

Tuesday's snow pushed New York City's snowfall total for this winter season to 57.1 inches, the city's seventh all-time snowiest.
This month is now the city's second snowiest February with a total of 28.8 inches. This particular February also ranks fourth among New York City's snowiest months over the years.
This new snow Tuesday and the potential for more snow next week and into March will advance this winter's snowfall rankings even more.
