Amidst the warm weather this week, northeastern Pennsylvania will be blasted by episodes of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds during Friday morning and midday.
Temperatures will generally stay above freezing through Friday evening, so the risk of black ice has diminished for the time being.
Fog may slow travel Friday morning.
However, the most significant weather maker will be a front moving through during the first part of Friday with drenching downpours, gusty winds and thunder and lightning.
The system may be potent enough to bring gusts between 50 and 60 mph. Such winds can down tree limbs and cause sporadic power outages.
In addition to the risk of airborne trash cans and other debris, motorists and pedestrians should be on the lookout for street, highway and poor drainage area flooding, along with potholes.
Flooding of small streams, especially those that flow through unprotected urban areas or where flood walls are in disrepair, such as Solomon Creek in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Toby Creek in Luzerne, Pa. are vulnerable for spilling over their banks.
Travel conditions may improve Friday afternoon, barring lingering poor drainage area flooding.
