A persistent onshore flow continued to ignite an active weather system
across the western U.S. on Saturday, while several waves of low pressure
drove snow showers across the central and eastern thirds of the
country.
An onshore flow from the Pacific continued to bring an onslaught of rain
and snow to the western U.S. on Saturday, as rain pushed across
California, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and Utah. Santa Rosa, Calif., reported
a midday total of 2.20 inches of rain, while Blue Canyon, Calif.,
reported a midday total of 1.84 inches of rain. Winter storm warnings
were also issued across California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and
Colorado as heavy snow impacted mountainous regions. Donner Summit,
Calif., reported a midday total of 21.0 inches of snow, while Placer,
Calif., reported a midday total of 17.0 inches of snow. The Southwest
stayed clear of precipitation on Saturday as high pressure continued to
build along the southern California coast.
Several waves of low pressure drove snow showers across parts of the
central and northern Plains, the upper Midwest and the Ohio Valley, as
Clayton, Iowa, reported a midday total of 2.0 inches of snow. To the
south, high pressure along the western Gulf of Mexico kept the majority
of the southern Plains and Gulf Coast clear on Saturday.
Meanwhile, an area of low pressure along the coast of the Carolinas
brought showers to parts of the Southeast on Saturday, while scattered
snow showers moved across the Mid-Atlantic.
