A major storm with snow and ice will threaten Charlotte, N.C., with dangerous travel and potential power outages at midweek.
For much of northern Georgia, upstate South Carolina and western and northern North Carolina, a prolonged wintry weather event was just beginning to unfold.
The first part of the storm will bring intermittent snow but enough to make some roads and sidewalks very slippery Monday night, Tuesday into early Tuesday night.
During late Tuesday night and Wednesday, sleet and freezing rain will attempt to mix in. However, the precipitation at this time will be quite heavy with the risk of road closures and power outages.

Airline passengers should prepare for possible lengthy delays and flight cancellations.
Even though the storm will depart Thursday, travel may be at a standstill part of the region.
Milder air will follow this winter storm Friday into the weekend and will assist with cleanup.
