A break from the cold and snowy weather is in store for much of the balance of this week around Boston, but problems are possible as well.
Temperatures are forecast to reach the 40s Thursday and the 50s Friday and Saturday.
Due to the extensive snow cover and the cold ground, the pattern will pose some problems.
The storm that brought rain to Boston Wednesday, strengthened before moving away in the Wednesday evening. As a result, a quick dose of snow Wednesday night into early Thursday morning can cover the ground and make for slippery travel.
Along with the mild weather and cold ground will come areas of fog. The fog could be dense enough at times in parts of the Midwest, South and East to cause flight delays.
A potent storm will affect the area on Friday with drenching rain, fog and the possibility of a thunderstorm.
At this time, it appears severe weather will stay south of the region, thanks in part to the snow cover, cold ground and cold ocean. However, there can be locally gusty winds.
Enough melting will occur this week to bring the risk of street and highway flooding.

Colder weather will return in stages this weekend into next week and additional storms with snow are likely to return.
