Wet weather continues in Seattle through the early part of the week.
A new cold front moved to the Pacific Northwest coast Sunday, bringing with it even more rain.
The month of September has already been a soaker in the weather books. Seattle normally has about 1.5 inches in the month of September. As of Sept. 21, the gauge reads 2.31 inches and will continue to increase.
The jet stream, a river like feature of fast winds in the upper atmosphere, is beginning to strengthen and dip farther south as the season changes. This is pulling more disturbances into the Pacific Northwest and will be the continuing trend.
Although rainfall has been above average, flooding appears to be a low threat through the start of the week. Rain will, however, dampen roadways which will make them slippery and hazardous for motorists.
The above graphic is a glimpse across the country for the start of the new week.
Cooler air will also accompany this disturbance and could help provide some snow across the higher peaks in the area. Much of the snow that falls will be at high enough altitudes that it will not pose any risks to travel. Temperatures in the city will remain lower 60s through the middle of the week.
