Stifling heat, humidity to surge into northeastern US Friday

Some of hottest weather of the summer will affect part of the northeastern United States late in the week and into this weekend.
Oppressive heat and humidity will punch eastward across the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes on Thursday then extend toward the mid-Atlantic coast on Friday.
"Hot weather is no stranger to July, but 100-degree Fahrenheit heat in July has been relatively uncommon from Chicago to New York City so far this century," according to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams.

"In New York Central Park, the only 100-degree July daily heat records were set on two days in 2010 and two days in 2011," Abrams said.
Patchy cloud cover and a round or two of thunderstorms will likely prevent 100-degree readings in much of the Northeast with the upcoming episode of heat.
While actual temperatures will stop short of the century mark in most of the Eastern states this time, daytime temperatures will surge well into the 90s from Virginia and West Virginia to parts of New York and Massachusetts. Highs well into the 80s are in store for northern New York state, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
Metro areas including New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Richmond and Charleston, West Virginia, can expect a heat wave with at least three days in a row of 90-degree highs.
The combination of extreme temperatures, high humidity, strong July sunshine and other factors will push AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures to dangerously high levels for some individuals.

RealFeel Temperatures will range from 100 to 110 for several hours in urban areas during Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the mid-Atlantic.
Most at risk will be the elderly, young children and people with respiratory and/or cardiovascular problems. However, anyone who overdoes it in the heat can succumb to dehydration, heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Be sure to drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids. When possible, take breaks from the heat in the shade or air conditioning.
"While the heat will throttle back a bit next week, temperatures and humidity levels will probably not come down in the mid-Atlantic like earlier this summer," according to AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok.

There will be a slight reduction in temperature and humidity levels, with the greatest drop expected in areas that will be bypassed by the most extreme heat in the first place: upstate New York and New England.
"For much of the mid-Atlantic, we are entering a long stretch of typical hot and humid weather that will live up to the phrase 'dog days of summer,'" Pastelok said.
There is a chance of substantial cooling that reaches as far south as Virginia during early August. However, that is not a certainty this far out. The core of that cooler air may hold up over the Central states.

For heaven sakes...summer is only 2-3 months long. Fall/winter lasts longer. Put on your big people panties and deal with it!

As you melt in the heat, stop by and chat with some Republicans. They will gladly take a break, lean on their snow shovels and explain how the climate isn't changing.
Steve Wolf ·
Gotta be careful Ken. WE know that one heat wave cannot be blamed on anything but WEATHER. It is the aggragation of warmer than average weather.....IE CLIMATE......that is what indicates the obvious: The Earth is warming up. But I get you.

No doubt this winter as a huge noreaster hits Washington there will be the idiotic politician (who WILL BE a Republican) who will try and score some sort of political "win" by tossing another snowball on the Senate floor.......all the while wallowing in self imposed ignorance and not even realizing that one of the consequences of a warmer atmosphere is stronger storms. Yes, even a SNOWSTORM with sub-zero temperatures.......

Steve Wolf I am very curious Steve, what exactly did the cavemen do to melt the glaciers in the last ice age? I mean, they melted, and fast! That drastic change in the climate couldn't have happened w/o humans affecting it, so truly, how were they able to do that?

Climate change is real. Anthropogenic climate change is a hoax. Anyone that states the science is settled either doesn't understand how complicated climate science is or is an unabashed liar. To state we know exactly what causes every bit of climate change is the height of arrogance and ignorance. It's anti-scientific to state you have all the answers to something as complicated as climate. Any climatologist worth a damn, and who isn't on the government dole, knows full well we've barely scratched the surface on understanding climate and how all of the variables effect each other.
